BEHIND THE HOOK
Pamela Chase is Owner and Hooking Specialist with Hooked4U. She is the mother of two children and seven grandsons.
After years of teaching and bonding with fellow crocheters and people with an interest to learn, I decided to start Hooked4U. In November of 2015, Hooked4U was born.
How It All Started
As long as I can remember, I have had a love for things creative. When I was a little girl, my mother taught me how to make doilies with the small steel needles (that is what we called hooks back then) and crochet thread. Who would have known that I would still be crocheting now? A few years later, an aunt taught me how to make hats using yarn and bigger hooks. Wow! From there I started making blankets and granny square bags from scratch and taught myself how to read patterns. That opened the door for sweaters and other items. As I got older, crocheting was not as consistent but it was still in my heart. When I started back, I was on a mission. One of my missions was to find like- minded people to crochet with who had an interest to learn. I found that with my niece who I taught to make scarves and a coworker who on our lunch, learned to make hats. From childhood, I have always wanted to be a teacher. That never happened but teaching others to crochet has fulfilled that desire! Others on the job wanted to learn or join me at lunch to crochet. I soon made myself available to make this possible. But with the demands of working in a government agency, it was a challenge getting together.
I find crocheting to be healing and therapy as it has helped me through health, mental and work issues. My goal is to meet as many people as I can to share my love of crocheting and adding boys and men also. Society sees crochet as an old lady boring activity but I want to show that it can be attractive to people of different genders and ages.
